Two new Coolpix models from Nikon
Nikon have announced two additions to its Coolpix consumer line-up - the Coolpix 2200 and Coolpix 3200.
These two new models are designed not only for first time digital camera buyers, but also for more experienced users looking for a digital camera with comfortable handling and easy operation. Following the launch of the Coolpix 3700 at the end of 2003, they utilise the SD card format which allows a more compact and lightweight design.
The Coolpix 2200 offers 2.0 effective megapixels while the Coolpix 3200 incorporates a 3.2 effective Megapixel CCD. Both feature Nikkor lenses and enhanced image processing technology to ensure accurate colour reproduction and sharp contrast.
The Graphic User Interface (GUI) displays easy to view menus on a large, bright 1.6-in. TFT LCD monitor which is also ideal for instant review of images. All controls are placed on the back of the camera for convenient access.
As with all models in the Coolpix series, the 2200 and the 3200 have been designed to make picture taking easy and fast: 15 handy scene modes range from sunset to fireworks and the 4 new scene assistant functions make it easier for beginners to capture images in any situation. A useful blur warning function alerts users if a picture needs another attempt.
Both cameras have a large internal storage memory allowing immediate picture taking without the SD memory card inserted. Two-way copying of stored images between the internal memory and SD cards is easy and fast.
A range of other features make shooting more fun. Five colour options comprising standard, vivid, black-and-white, sepia, and cyanotype can be used to achieve creative results.
Offering more convenience, both cameras are compatible with a wide range of rechargeable and disposable batteries, including alkaline batteries.
A newly developed waterproof case is available as an optional accessory and safeguards the camera when it's used on the beach, in the rain, or even underwater while scuba diving to depths of 40m.
Both new Coolpix models, and the optional waterproof case are expected to be available in spring, 2004. The 2200 will have an RRP price of £149.99 and the 3200 will be £229.99. € price to be confirmed as is the price for the housing.
